Poor Clare Nuns
Christ the King Monastery
Why care? 2
In 2021, I think, another buyer came along with an offer just under five million. There were contingencies involved and a suitable escrow established against the buyer's non-performance. I'm thinking somewhere around three hundred thousand, but I'm not sure of the exact amount. But it was up there. This all looked good until later on when the buyer defaulted and lost the escrow, which was transferred to the Monastery.
But the buyer wasn't done yet. They drew up a new contract with a new closing date and a new date for the sisters to vacate, and we'd lose our escrow if we didn't leave on time.
The time the sisters had to complete the deal was probably too short, plus we didn't even have a place to go once the Monastery was sold, and so much risk to take with somewhere around four hundred thousand of our escrow money if we couldn't be out in time! Oh ya, when the buyers asked for Their defaulted escrow money back, she in her incompetency, just handed it over. It was her mistake, but when suggested she ask for it back, she said naw, too embarrassing to admit the fault. Three hundred thousand of Monastery money she just gave away, and no one said a thing about it!
No matter, the 'one in charge' believed they could do it in time, although she had absolutely no strategy in mind. Meanwhile, some of the sisters were searching for a new house and found quite a few that would suit, but the 'one in charge' had her own ideas, the only ones that mattered. Although a couple places the sisters located were ideal, the 'one in charge' ignored them and instead, nearly bought a real hole-in-the-wall trash heap that was pushed on her by an agent. But that deal fell thru, so the search continued. By now our time was really short, so the 'one in charge' selected another place, big price and totally as-is, plus didn't meet the criteria she had mandated. After the deal was consummated, it was discovered that so many things were wrong and needed fixing, things that should have been caught by the inspection, but they were missed, and the 'one in charge' never thought to double check everything. So add another hundred thousand to the cost. But she didn't care, we were rich and could pay cash for everything. She was a Big Shot now, spending like the Big Boys.
