The original roofers had installed the wrong size flashing which didn't cover the roof edges. Any heavy wind could easily blow rain under it and into the building. So the guy contacted the mother company and described the issue. The company agreed with the analysis and agreed to send, free of charge, all the materials needed to fix the problem.

So how did that go over with the 'one in charge'? Of course, not her idea, didn't understand it, wanted no part of it. So she respectfully declined the offer of free materials, stating that it wouldn't be fair to accept it since they were going to sell the place anyhow. Ok, then, back to rain, dump buckets, launder towels, set up again, then repeat. For Years!
Motivation 1
So why didn't the 'one in charge' want the building repaired? Why did she say we were almost broke? Why did she say we were about to sell? Here's my take on it. The Monastery, at that time, was Not for sale, and was Not on any current agenda, except in our 'person's' mind. That same 'person' said that she hated the place, that maintenence and upkeep were 'eating us out of house and home'. She said that we were 'nearly bankrupt' because of it. That very same person was now turning down the means to fix our roof leaks once and for all, and for free. Bankrupt? With net assets likely at or near five million dollars, before, during, and after these times? Do nuns really lie like this?

Do you see a possible motivation here? Maybe this 'person' hated the place so bad that she'd do anything to be rid of it. Perhaps if she, being the 'one in charge', could sorta 'let the place go', by not fixing things as required by law, maybe it'd fall apart enough to convince others that they had to sell out and move to a new house. What, Dear Reader, do You think? Did she intentionally allow the place to fall into disrepair, even though our own Constitution mandates that we keep our assets in good repair? Have we done so? Is this, Dear Reader, how you imagined the way our 'personofinterest' was conducting business? Business that You have looked up to and supported? And what if you knew that eventually, she sold the place out from under us for HALF its value? Just to be rid of it? oops again, a tale for later, ok?
