Why care? 4
Yes, Dear Reader, we have a puzzlement here. How can we, as a community, keep accepting our 'one in charge' while at the same time, loathing her for the way she behaves?
This behavior, which I will explain, is what I believe is the outward appearance of a very sick mind. If anyone outside religious life ever acted this way they'd be ostracized. For us, we've been taught that it's ours to suffer for our sins. But allow me to offer some examples of her typical behavior. I realize that we can't possibly know what a person is thinking, but it helps me, anyway, to understand the actions if I supply what I believe is what she would be thinking.
I walk as fast as I can so they can't keep up with me, proving to myself how great I am and they're so slow.
At prayers I speak as fast as I can, knowing they can't keep up with me, because I am the greatest.
I stop each sister and spend a long time relating how my day has been, because it's wonderful, just like me.
I stop the next sister and repeat word for word because, even though she doesn't deserve me, I'm good for her.
At the dinner table I repeat again what I've told each one, but that's ok because I love hearing myself talk.
When I'm telling a story, I'll repeat myself several times because I sound so wonderful.
When telling a story I talk fast so I can hurry up and repeat myself, and sometimes I don't finish a sentence just so I can hurry up to begin repeating what I know is a wonderful thing about me, so it must be great for you to hear me.
If we are about to meet on the sidewalk and I don't like you today, I'll turn around an go the other way to avoid you.
If you try to engage me, and I don't want to hear it, I'll about-face, flap my hands like an freightened bird, and leave as quickly as I can, usually with 'I don't have time for this'.
If you ask me a question I can't answer, I'll let you know I'm too busy or it's too complicated for your understanding.
The second time I meet you, I'll enthrall you by telling you how busy I am, just can't get it all finished.
